This chic throw pillow is made from an antique silk crepe obi (kimono belt) with an embroidered design depicting traditional make-up cases, or 'hakoseko'.  In the days when Tokyo was called Edo, women of samurai families carried their mirrors and make-up tools in these hakoseko, which were stashed in between the collars of their kimonos. Nowadays, hakoseko are used with wedding kimonos and Shichigosan ceremonial kimonos. The cloth dates from the end of the Taisho Era (the reign of the Emperor Taisho), or the beginning of the Showa Era.
